Marijuana Addiction Detox

Though many people attempt to use cannabis harmlessly, usage can easily become problematic. Marijuana addiction can disrupt your career, harm your relationships, and negatively impact your mental and physical well-being.

The Jackson House Recovery Centers team is here to support you through detox and recovery from marijuana addiction with comprehensive treatment options designed for your success.

Understanding Marijuana Addiction

Cannabis use disorder (CUD) refers to problematic marijuana usage, and it can significantly impact your life. Marijuana addiction is the most extreme form of this condition. Although both CUD and marijuana addiction can lead to tolerance and withdrawal symptoms, continuing to smoke marijuana in spite of negative consequences is indicative of an addiction.

Marijuana sends a great deal of dopamine to your brain, which creates feelings of pleasure. Unfortunately, the more you use marijuana, the more likely you are to try to recreate these feelings of pleasure through the drug as opposed to seeking these feelings through healthy behaviors and experiences.

When you gravitate toward marijuana use to feel good, it can negatively impact your brain chemistry. Over time, you will start to require more cannabis in order to recreate the same level of pleasure as you felt in the past. Further, you may begin to stop seeking dopamine from the healthy outlets you used to, like spending time with loved ones or running.

Risk Factors

There is no single cause of CUD; however, both genetic and environmental factors can put you at greater risk.

The following may lead to problematic usage:

Age: Those who use cannabis before they turn 18 are 4-7 times more likely than adults are to develop CUD.

Exposure: If you are consistently around a loved one or a friend who uses marijuana, it may influence you to start.

Frequency of usage: Using cannabis regularly throughout your days or weeks increases your risk of dependence.

Genetic Factors: When you have a family member with a substance use disorder, you face a higher risk of developing one yourself.

Gender: Men face a greater risk for CUD than women.

Mental health: Some turn to substances to cope with mental health symptoms, and others face worsened mental health problems because of substance use.

Potency: Using higher-potency marijuana is more likely to cause CUD.

Usage of other substances: Nicotine, alcohol, and other substances increase your risk as well.

Personalized Treatment at JHRC

A medically supervised detox is a safe approach to help people clear substances out of their bodies. Professionals oversee this process, helping clients through any withdrawal symptoms with both support and supervision.

At Jackson House Recovery Centers, detoxing with us consists of the following elements:

  • Intake: During client intake, we’ll guide you through paperwork and help you get settled. In this portion of the process, we get to know you and learn more about your history, your addiction, and how we can help you.
  • 24/7 support: Through every step of your medical detox, you’ll be surrounded by compassionate professionals. They will monitor you and be there to support you with around-the-clock care.
  • Medication-assisted treatment (MAT): In some cases, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) may be used to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
  • Recovery time: We understand that the detox process takes time at JHRC, and not every person will require the same amount of time. Each client will be personally supported and given enough time to recover.

Recovery After Detox

In addition to a supervised detox, marijuana addiction treatment is available at JHRC. We can help you through the early stages of recovery, providing nutrition assistance, coping skills training, individual and group therapy options, and more in a safe, encouraging environment.

We also offer aftercare services where you can benefit from support after treatment has ended. Our alumni group keeps JHRC peers connected through fun activities and volunteer opportunities.
